Re: Speeding up Desmume Desmume is a very demanding emulator, sometimes the only way to achieve better performance is by getting a faster CPU. Newer Intel i3-i5-i7 CPUs will fare better, though, as they have better single core performance. Desmume doesn't seem to be heavily multithreaded as it only maxes out one of my CPU cores. Also you stated you " can't seem to find any controls or preferences to change" try having a look at the top of the screen, there should be a typical applications menu there.

By properly I actually mean, not to compare with any other emulator in quality fast, when I try to fast forward in Desmume and other DS emulators it doesn't speed really that much and the fps just drop though the FPS rate goes higher, I see it skips some frames. I tried a lot of stuff by now, change graphics, emulator settings, using the hotkeys to increase the fps, trying to see if the frame limiter did something, but nothing, my pc isn't bad at all and still, the fast forward works a bit awful. I'm used to fast forward from emulators like SnesX9 or Visual Boy Advance, which work pretty nice and have a really nice speed up without dropping fps and without needing to configure anything and I have no problem skipping. I've been experiencing some speed problems when playing on the emulator, and still after reading the FAQ and lowering all my settings I couldn't get the nagging feeling that the emulator can be sped up a million-fold. I've basically been having ups and downs in emulation speed, when sometimes the game would play fine and fast, and at other times, while doing the same exact things, things would slow down to a crawl. Now, I play this on my laptop, but this works, so get your skeptic faces off. Really, I mean it. I figured this can't be an emulator problem - and it isn't! The problem, as I've discovered today, was CPU affinity and hyper-threading. My laptop has an I5 processor, and this, like many other dual-core processors, have both dual-core and hyperthreading. The computer sees 4 separate processors, and assigns the DeSmuME process to all 4 of them.
