Dell charger turns off when plugged in

This post is more than 5 years old. September 14th, I bought a Inspiron 15r N last feburary and now I think the powesupply went out. I plug the charger into the wall and the light is on, when I plug the other end into the pc the light on the charger goes off, I've tried this with two different chargers and they both behave the same. No response form the pc with either charger. The second charger I used I know works, so I figure it must be the power supply, if thats true, where do I get one?

August 16th, Hi guys! So about 2 and a half months ago, I had a little mishap with my laptop charger. Dunno why I didn't come here first, but it's never too late! Anyway, I had just finished using my laptop for the night, and was plugging it in to charge. I noticed it was a bit difficult to insert. I was skeptical. After that, I looked at the charging port. Nope, nothing out of the ordinary. Then I checked the charger itself.

I have over half a terabyte of stuff on there that I really don't wanna lose.

June 27th, I woke up this morning and my laptop wouldn't turn on. No sign that it was working at all, no lights turning on or anything. I tried plugging in the charger again, nothing. I tried it with 2 other chargers, same thing.

March 9th, I'm writing this to help others who may have had the same problem. The other thread that is on this topic was 'read only' so I couldn't comment. My inspirion 13 's series laptop stopped charging. The light on the adapter worked when plugged into the wall but as soon as I plugged it into the laptop it would go off and wasn't charging. I saw the threads about the motherboard might be faulty. So i took the back plate off the computer. I removed the female end of the power insert and plugged the adapter into it just by itself and the charger did the same thing. The problem was right there as it was isolated from the rest of the computer.

It was super easy actually. What fixed this for me was futzing around with the rubbery part of the AC plug where it bends past the hard plastic part that plugs in. It is possible that it's only the adapter that is causing the issue so this would be the first thing to try to replace. Not entirely sure what caused the problem in the first place, be it the charger or the jack. August 16th, Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. If you have tried two different power supplies and both behave the same charger light goes off when plugging into the laptop then it's more likely something is wrong with the mainboard or any other device that is connected to it short circuit.
