T he first Dead Frog beer was brewed in a cramped but cozy warehouse across from the Aldergrove Drive-In in After honing his craft for 10 years as Backwoods Brewing , founder Derrick Smith decided it was time to change up the name. Together with his wife Donna, he opened the doors to Dead Frog Brewery in June , armed with the recipe for a Nut Brown Ale hastily scratched onto a bar napkin nights before and a thirst to drive the industry forward. Now, his son Cole pictured above is the head brewer. That lets our brewhouse get really creative, which is fun for everyone. The biggest change has probably been how important tasting rooms are now. We push to be creative in everything we do from creating brews, to designing labels, to adding new eats to our tasting room menu. The Nut Brown was the first recipe Derrick created when he was thinking of opening a brewery, so it was born from the passion he had for great beer.

The Langley Township and Langley City are quickly becoming a craft beer mecca, between the Kwantlen Brewing Program, six commercial breweries and 7th opening soon. There is no patio, but the tasting room is modern and welcoming. Unlike a lot of craft breweries, the bar seating is front and center; payment is taken on the side, creating a very social environment for the singles bellied up to the bar.
