During the closure, the pool, gym, preschool areas, childminding, fitness and meeting rooms will not be available. But access to the Dawe branch of the Red Deer Public Library will be maintained throughout construction. Use of this equipment will require a daily admission or monthly pass. Some programs that operate from the Dawe will be available elsewhere. Please check program registration for location information. Some of the changes that will result from this Dawe Centre upgrade are: Two NHL standard ice surfaces, expanded fitness area, outdoor spray park with washrooms, accessible change space and pool deck party room, an additional north entrance site access from 67 Street and extra parking spots. After an eight-week construction closure, the G. Dawe Community Centre will reopen to the public on Sunday. But as of 10 a. Sunday, most amenities will be available, including the pool and gymnasium. Drop-in schedules are available online. Some changes that were completed during this closure include: a fully accessible change room, a pool deck party room, updated steam room and sauna, and an added washroom for the pre-school area. A significant amount of unseen work has also wrapped up on utilities and services for future ice arenas and fitness spaces. The City of Red Deer anticipates minimal impact to users.
