The family is filing a lawsuit against Winter Park police after Knight was shot and killed by officers in a altercation at the Winter Park Events Center during a wedding reception. At issue is the radio traffic in the moments before police arrived at the scene and surveillance video from inside the Winter Park Events Center, where the wedding was held and where a caller said Knight was acting violent. The call released by WPPD said Knight was belligerent and attacking other guests, which his family denied. Police said they were trying to separate Knight, who was drunk, from another guest when they arrived on scene. Body camera footage showed the guest was his sister, who was pleading with officers not to escalate the situation when the officer tried to pull her away from Knight. Another officer tried stunning him with a Taser and was also knocked to the ground. Moments later, seven shots rang out, striking Knight multiple times.
