This documentary build up the "legend" of the Blair Witch and also made people think that three filmmakers went into the woods to do a documentary on it and disappeared only to have their footage found later. I must admit that this feature was a lot more effective back when it was originally released but watching it all these years later at least kept me entertained due in large part to nostalgia. With that said, you still have to give this fake documentary credit for at least making up a good story to play along side the actual film. I thought there were some good stories here and the most important thing is that it actually built up interest in the film and that still rings true when viewed today.

Curse of the Blair Witch , a mockumentary which premiered on SyFy as a promotional piece before the release of the original film, actually proves to be a better follow-up to the hit than either of the sequels. The main conceit behind The Blair Witch Project was that it was promoted as a real documentary; it was said that the Maryland film students behind it were actually missing , and the terrifying legends of the Blair Witch were centuries old. At a runtime of 81 minutes, the movie scratches the surface of the mythology before the horror of the main characters takes center stage.

It didn't work for me as a even briefly convincing "documentary. Without having seen it, the film is extraordinarily rich and suggestive, playing havoc with the viewer who carries no preconceptions like myself. They were given individual instructions to use to help improvise the action of the day.
