Ellen Craft — and William Craft September 25, — January 29, were American abolitionists who were born into slavery in Macon, Georgia. They escaped to the Northern United States in December by traveling by train and steamboat, arriving in Philadelphia on Christmas Day. Perhaps my favorite take-away from my co-op with the MFA Boston is the beginnings of a research project. While conducting research for an exhibit on gender-bending and fashion which I talked about in a previous post I began to look into cases in which women had been arrested for wearing pants. Michelle Finamore recently published an article, The Audacity of Pants , which touches on the cultural shifts that took place in America with the simple action of women donning trousers.
