Gents, I have the chance to pickup a consew It is as near as I can tell an older machine. Needs some cosmetic cleanup. Is this of any use for leather. It looks a lot like a to me. Not sure it would work but I have it. I have no use for a blind stitch bt couldn't pass up a table and a motor at that price. Thanks for any thoughts Ross.

The 'fabric' actually a piece of cardboard moves back and forth but doesn't progress in either direction. The needle just goes through the same hole. This was a completely frozen machine and needed a near complete disassembly. About the only things I didn't take apart were the middle shaft for the reverse on the bottom of the machine and the shaft on the bottom that controls the feed dog, and the rock shaft in the upper arm part of the casting. I have no idea if it was working properly before I took it apart. The needle comes down and passes through the vibrating foot and fabric when it's in a rear position and moving forward. The needle lifts and the vibrating foot follows the feed dog and pulls the fabric back. Here is how I assembled it.

I did some searching but didn't find much in the way to answer my questions. If this has been answered many times before, please feel free to point me to the relevant thread. So, I pulled up the PDF manual on the Consew machine I just bought and was reading over the needle and thread sizes that are recommended. All of my machines in the past worked fine with domestic all purpose thread, but I know that won't be true in this case. I can't find any websites that have pics of the needles and thread up close or to scale, so I am having a hard time selecting what will be appropriate for my work. Would you be kind enough to help me? Which would you use for thick stuff like veg-tan? First of all, if you intend to use household polyester, polycore, or cotton thread, your chart looks accurate. The thinnest nylon thread we normally use is referred to as 69, or T70 thread, which is a Government standard.

Well folks I got the machine back from the pro and it was well worth it.
