The embryo was placed into an artificial maturation matrix and given false memories. The plan was to let Project 13 artificially age to be as old as Superman was when he died, but the Newsboy Legion, who were clones themselves, set Project 13 free early. Filled with fake memories and having superpowers, Project 13 escaped from Cadmus and headed to Metropolis. Reports began to come in that, along with a man calling himself Steel , a Cyborg Superman , and a more violent Superman , a fourth Superman was saving people. This one was a teenager with a bit of an attitude and a whole lot of ego.
