This animated series followed the adventures of the crew of the Ghost, a small rebel cell active in the formative years of the Rebel Alliance. Chopper quickly set himself apart from Star Wars ' other famous astromech, R2-D2. While R2 was a loyal friend to his companions, with chopper rebels bit of a cheeky side, Chopper was a grumpy and ill-mannered agent of chaos, chopper rebels. While chopper rebels cared about his crewmates deep down and usually acted with their best interests at heart, Chopper was far more violent and unpredictable than other astromechs who had appeared in Star Wars media.

CP better known as Chopper was an astromech , who served alongside the rebel crew of the Ghost. During the Clone Wars , Chopper served the Republic Navy as a navigational astromech and was part of the Ryloth campaign. During the battle, his Y-Wing Starfighter was shot down and he was heavily damaged, leading to him being found by Hera Syndulla , a young Twi'lek girl who was the daughter of the Twi'lek Resistance leader Cham Syndulla. Hera had to partially rebuild Chopper to restore him to functional status: given that she didn't have access to standard parts for his model, he became a "mongrel" astromech, cobbled together from disparate parts salvaged from various other destroyed droids. Chopper's battered and buggy new body left him with a cranky personality, though he became very loyal to his new master Hera for saving him.

After many years of repairs and patch jobs, Chopper had a beat-up, worn look that matched his sometimes cranky personality. During a refueling mission on Horizon Base, Chopper stole a strut to upgrade his appearance.
