Check the full blog on how we rescued this Honda CX here. Nearly all modern motorcycle shocks will be too soft of spring rate. This is from the high leverage ratio when doing the conversion What you need to do is simply find a monoshock the correct length and have it custom built for the correct spring rate. Hello On the middle of converting a euro e model with air monoshock. Wanted to replace this old standard mono shock unit with more modern looking one.

The Honda CBX was the companies flagship model when it was released in With a whopping 6 cylinders and bhp, it was a beast of a bike. So for this project, he built the bike up from parts he sourced online and at local swap meets. Michael then filled in the gaps by utilising his skills as a CNC programmer to fabricate what was needed. Everything from the engine work to the bikes stunning 6-into-6 exhaust was carefully planned and executed and the results speak for themselves. With 2 bikes parked in his workshop, he decided the only rational thing to do was convert them both into cafe racers which he proceeded to do over a 10 month period. The finished bikes are identical aside from a few cosmetic differences. He used his in racing catamaran manufacturing to create the bikes new tail units and installed modern suspension systems to improve handling.

Inspired by the Wrenchmonkees own CX, Josh set out to customise the bike using his skills in metal fabrication, despite having limited experience working on motorcycles. I attempted a mono-shock design first using a CBR shock, but it ended up being way too soft. So, I figured out that the simplest way to do it right would be to just use an existing design. Honda had already figured out the leverage, linkage, pivot points and spring rates that worked so I just had to figure out a way to get that stuff onto my bike. At the front of the bike he also tried a couple of few different configurations. After I had the rear end sorted out though I had to update it to an inverted fork to look the part.

While I do give up a little in comfort it accelerates quicker and handles and stops better and that's what I wanted from this. A well built and practical cafe bike is fine , but wrecking a perfectly good bike and not completeing the build astounds me still. Too often, we see a new rider who started a cafe racer project because that's what's trendy. Thank you Dale. Just woke up and saw this thread on top Trade comfort for horse power? Many changes could be reversed assuming you didn't bin the original bits!
The Japanese manufacturers only venture into the world of horizontally opposed twins.
There are more than enough "originals" left for the coming generations that will not even want one for free Back to blog. Probably not the smartest thing to do. It is your bike and you choose what to do with it. Sure, depending on what you want from it.
In my opinion it is obvious. I will refrain from comments.
