We are a british geological survey independent research organisation providing objective, expert geoscientific data, information and knowledge. The British Geological Survey BGS is a partly publicly funded body which aims to advance geoscientific knowledge of the United Kingdom landmass and its continental shelf by means of systematic surveying, monitoring and research. From the s, the survey in Scotland operated under the identity of the Geological Survey of Scotland. As a world-leading research-intensive survey and trusted impartial advisor to government on geoscience, we deliver innovation and impact that underpins UK economic development. With a number of centres spread across the United Kingdom, we provide geoscientific data, information and knowledge that directly benefits England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, as well as UK society as a whole. Our development of major infrastructure includes UK GeoEnergy Observatories which will provide scientific energy-related test beds in two geologically different locations in the UK.
