The new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduces plenty of different takes on the Wall-Crawler, quickly including cameos and shots of assorted Spider-Heroes from across the multiverse. There even seems to be some real tension between the heroes, as a brewing conflict between the Spider-Heroes could suggest a more dramatic direction for the film and its characters. One of the many versions of Spider-Man featured briefly in the trailer though is a far sillier conception. On top of codifying Peter's connection to Marvel's First Family, it's also become one of Spider-Man's most enduring alternate costumes in media outside of comics. After visiting the Baxter Building and having Reed Richards analyze the black costume he received on Battle-World , Parker was shocked to learn that the costume was actually a living symbiote. While The Fantastic Four agreed to house the alien and study it, Parker was worried leaving the Baxter Building as just himself would either outright expose his identity or at the very least give people a reason to investigate his origins. To help appease concerns, Human Torch -- who'd long enjoyed a playfully prankish friendship with the Wall-Crawler -- gave him a spare version of the classic Fantastic Four costume to wear. He also gave him a paper bag with eyeholes cut to serve as a mask, and -- as one final indignity -- put a Kick Me sign on his back. Spider-Man was forced to web-swing back home in this costume, stopping an active crime and being photographed as a potential new recruit to the Fantastic Four. The Bombastic Bag-Man has been referenced in-universe a few times since then, such as during the "Identity Crisis" storyline. It has even come back recently as a costume for Peter to use while retraining following a serious injury fighting the U-Foes.

Just about a year after the first look teaser dropped, Sony has finally released a proper trailer for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. But out of the numerous spider-themed heroes both highlighted and hiding in the background, one, in particular, stood out each time he appeared onscreen. Of course, we're talking about the Bombastic Bag-Man! Though his suit is slightly different that the version we're used to from the pages of Marvel Comics, it's impossible to mistake this incarnation of the friendly neighborhood web-slinger. I mean, it's hard to miss Spider-Man wearing a paper bag over his head. However, despite the fact that this version of the fan-favorite character is often played for laughs, Peter Parker's Bag-Man Spidersona always seems to pop up during important transitional periods in the hero's life. There's no doubt that Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and David Callaham have thrown in some excellent jokes and gags around this character in their latest script, but let's take some time to acknowledge that Bag-Man is as amazing, spectacular, and ultimate as the rest of the Spider-People. Shortly after Spider-Man adopted the black symbiote suit four issues earlier and during the "Secret Wars" crossover event, Peter visited the Fantastic Four at the Baxter Building to learn more about his new attire.
