Edit: From what I've read, the Pure One with the yellow exterior is the new design which is better than the old design.

All the aftermarket filters use a lower bypass pressure which could let unfiltered oil run through your motor on cold startups in theory anyways.

The factory installed oil filter is the exact same filter that the DIT2. It is a bad, bad problem. Going to try the German Castrol Syntec 0w OEM filters have worked well for our Subarus. Aside from price, the benefit to using cardboard is that the coefficient of expansion of the end cap is much less than a metal end cap, putting less stress on the adhesive from the temperature swings seen in the filter. I hate the blue filter and cannot bring myself to use it. Looking to stock up on a couple oil filters.

The burden is on the dealer to prove the aftermarket parts caused the failure. I like Tokyo Roki and Idemitsu Zepro because they are very good quality and very reasonably priced.
