I am starting up my 36 gallon tank and I currently have a lot of plants on the ground, but the top is looking very sparse. I was looking for a floating aquatic plant that won't completely block the light from the other plants that are planted at the bottom of the tank. Any recommendations? A few red root floaters would look really nice and cover the top and not overtake the other plants I have. Some Water Spangles, I think would be cool but I also think they would block the light from others. Personally, I like water lettuce, it does take over though so you will have to remove some from time to time. Because your tank is quite tall, it might be worth considering getting some long pieces of wood, standing them upright and attaching some anubis or something similar to the wood, that will give you the desired height.
