While we love all types of movies here at IGN, we're especially fond of action films. That's what we were weaned on, both the good and the bad. As fondly as we recall the mindless slaughterfests that powered the Saturday evenings and lazy Sunday afternoons of the '80s and '90s, the term "action movie" means more than just camp B-movie schlock. So along with the classic action fare, we've tried to invigorate this list with the best action anywhere you can find it. Our list was compiled by and voted on by IGN's biggest action fans, where we took into account a variety of factors, including quality of action, amount of thrills, and overall legacy of the film in question.

Full Contact Was there ever a badder dude named after an Elton John song? Their only hope is a man locked in with them, yet free to roam, a lone hero who must pick off the bad guys one by one, arcade-game—style, until he reaches the Big Boss. Scott made the film at a fascinating time — in the dying days of studio movies shooting on huge-scale practical sets, and at the dawn of CGI embellishments. Craig's is a finely tuned machine who is absolutely believable as someone who could clear a room, and as a cold, hardened man who has buried his heart as far away from harm as possible. Some fans may prefer the spooky ritual human sacrifice of Temple of Doom or the rollicking father-and-son japes of The Last Crusade but, for us, the original gets the nod here. Action is a visual genre. Instead, A Touch of Zen is all about atmosphere and is dedicated to being a slow-burn, though once the action does start, it's spellbinding to watch. Synopsis: The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in Sword of Sherwood Errol Flynn robs from the rich, gives to the poor and winks at the ladies in what is still the greatest screen version of this durable legend. Photographed on pore-enhancing digital cameras that lend a strikingly antiseptic sheen to daylight scenes and a gorgeously pixelated humidity to night shots, the film follows Crockett and Tubbs as they attempt to infiltrate the empire of South American drug lord Montoya Luis Tosar. Later John Woo movies might deliver even more wild action set pieces, but few action movies hit as hard as The Killer does when it comes to the emotional content of the stories they tell. Breakdown

Critics Consensus: With exhilarating action and a surprising amount of narrative heft, Mad Max: Fury Road brings George Miller's post-apocalyptic franchise roaring vigorously back to life. The one-man army is here headed to the jungles of Vietnam on a mission to infiltrate an enemy base-camp, only to wind up rescuing the American POWs still held captive there. And the casting was also note perfect, transforming the public perception of Keanu Reeves overnight from dim-bulb stoner to deadpan killing machine a role he continues to enjoy in the likes of Man Of Tai-Chi and the John Wick franchise. Critics Consensus: Wanted is stylish, energetic popcorn fare with witty performances from Angelina Jolie playing an expert assassin , James McAvoy, and Morgan Freeman that help to distract from its absurdly over-the-top plot. Even when the bus is blown to hell, the explosions still keep coming right until the very end. The killer scene: The first appearance of psychotic mutant Humungus and his band of gibbering drones—both hilarious and disturbing. Slaving away at spectacle Exactly the kind of big, fat hit that Hollywood was invented to make, Gladiator brought out the best in everyone.
