Born in India, Bansari Mehta escaped a world in which a patriarchal society expected women to get married and start having children to keep the male side of the family name. She credits her own father with making sure she could go to a private school and teaching her that hard work leads to success. Her interest has always been health care, beginning at age 8 and continuing when she went to respiratory therapy school in India.
