This affordable little ride offers features like pneumatic air tires, alloy wheels and hubs, and a threadless headset. Thanks to its low standover height and long seatpost, it also provides a good fit for kids from 2 to 4 years old. It does not have an adjustable height handlebar so older riders will be fairly leaned over. If your child is already 3 or 4, opt for a bigger balance bike. We love that the Banana Bike GT comes with a quick-release seatpost collar, so that you can make quick, easy, and tool-free seat height adjustments. This comes in handy if the bike is being shared between siblings, or for those seemingly overnight growth spurts. Not so for the Banana GT. Its air-filled tires are beefy, have good traction, and can be ridden safely on any terrain —grass, dirt, gravel, uneven pavement, you name it. We also like that the wheels and hubs are alloy. Where many budget balance bikes fall short is their headset. This is the mechanism that connects the fork to the handlebars.
The bike includes all of the tools needed for assembly. It comes prebuilt.
These bikes help tots learn to steer, brake, balance, and ride—making the eventual graduation to a pedal bike easier than it might be with training wheels. Kids can ride them outdoors or indoors if your home has the room and can use them on family jaunts through the neighborhood. This top-notch bike is sturdy and easy to assemble, with air-filled tires, a steering limiter, and a handbrake that gets kids one step closer to riding a pedal bike. This low-slung bike is not as polished as our other picks and is a pain to assemble. But it performs well and can get most kids up and happily gliding along. Agile, simple to assemble, and sized right for the smallest kids, this is the balance bike for bike-enthusiast parents who want their child to have a pro-level tyke bike. The Guardian Balance Bike was a surprise hit during our testing round, as the preschoolers in the group fought over riding it.

Using your own bike if you have one, lower the seat way down and model how to hold up the bike and walk with it. Boys , Girls. When aligned properly, the clamp is more likely to hold the post securely and not allow it to twist or slide down. If you see us out on the trail, make sure to say hi! With all kids, however, if riding on dirt or non-paved surfaces is anticipated, we would recommend going with the air tires on the GT over the LT or the LTF. Compared with many of the other bikes we tried, the Guardian model was easy to build. If the distance between the handlebars and the seat is too tight, the child will be uncomfortably upright, or even leaning slightly back, and their knees will hit the handlebars as they grow. The LT Banana Bike is easy to assemble. We search for prices on over bike retailers to guarantee that we find the lowest prices — to save you time and money. Encourage them to look forward, not down.
