Asmaa's full-time job is as a consultant breast surgeon in Cardiff but her sewing hobby means she is already known for making post-op bras for her patients. A Cardiff surgeon has won the latest series of The Great British Sewing Bee and everyone is saying the same thing about her "incredible" skills. During the Iraq and Iran War, Asmaa would spend her time watching and learning from her grandmother who was a seamstress. The year-old learnt how to hand sew the wardrobe for her dolls, using any scraps and remnants she could find. After finally escaping Iraq, aged 14, Asmaa and her family moved to Durham where her father was working as a scientist. At 18, she moved to Cardiff to study medicine. Now, working as a consultant breast surgeon in Cardiff , the mother-of-two specialises in making underwear, creating sets to coordinate with her outfits, and she is even known to have made post-op bras for her breast cancer patients. Asmaa, who had won Garment of the Week in episodes seven, eight and nine en-route to the final, ultimately had what it took to edge out her fellow finalists and be crowned as the UK's best amateur sewer. After winning the BBC competition, she said: "The only thing that's really kept me going and kept me balanced in life, and especially in the last few years, has been sewing. It's my escape, my way to forget about all the troubles in the world and at work. Amongst everything I have done in the last 45 years of my life this has to top it all — not the medical degree, not anything else, this is it!

It was that sense of knowing it would be our last ever challenge ever together, asma sewing bee, and as we were nearing the end strangely it did become quite calm. Loved the series and the final.

The Great British Sewing Bee winner has been crowned, after a nail-biting final. Judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant chose Asmaa to take home the coveted title, as the consultant breast surgeon from Cardiff emerged triumphant over the batch of 12 home sewers.
