Annie Potts is an American film, television, and stage actress. She is known for her roles in popular s films such as Ghostbusters and Pretty in Pink She made her debut on the big screen in in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer comedy film Corvette Summer , with Mark Hamill, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe. Interested in stage and film at an early age, Annie Potts attended Stephens College in Missouri, enrolling in the theater studies course, followed by graduate work in California. At the age of 20, she married her college sweetheart, Steven Hartley. Only a short time later, she and her husband were in serious automobile accident in Sumner, Washington -- their Volkswagen bus was demolished by two drivers who were drag racing. Steve lost a leg, and Annie had multiple fractures resulting in a traumatic arthritis that still persists.

She has two older sisters. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri , and graduated with a bachelor's degree in theater. Potts and her first husband, Steven Hartley, were in a car crash that left several bones below her waist broken, [3] including compound fractures to both legs, and caused the loss of the heel of her right foot; Hartley lost his left leg. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in for her role in the film. In , she played Edith Bedelmeyer, a woman who shared an attic apartment with three other women played by Georgia Engel , Lorna Patterson , and Francine Tacker on the short-lived comedy series, Goodtime Girls. Potts played receptionist Janine Melnitz in the Ghostbusters film series; Potts created the character's trademark New York accent based on a friend's who was from the city. Potts has done work on audio books; including as the narrator and heroine of Larry McMurtry 's Telegraph Days , winning the Audie Award for Solo Narration-Female, for her portrayal. She made her Broadway debut upon joining the cast of the Tony Award —winning play God of Carnage on November 17, , succeeding Hope Davis in the role. In an effort to spare the program, Daley's former students band together to stage a musical to raise money to keep the program alive.
