Little is known about Swann's background, other than she seems to share her history with Aaron Hotchner. Swann's most notable case as head of the Domestic Trafficking Task Force was trying to track down a human trafficking ring. Three years have been spent being committed to the case, and in the third year, Swann decided to lure out the ring by sending one of her agents, year-old Renee Matlin, undercover at a university. There, Renee befriended Lucy, who happened to be the ring's leader. Lucy apparently gained Renee's trust in order to have an abduction for the both of them be successfully staged. Eventually, the ring catches the attention of Hotch and his BAU team when the bodies of two of the ring's victims are discovered after a car accident kills the driver, one of the ring's members.
