More than 21, Toyota vehicles have been recalled due to flaws in the rear axle that may cause a vehicle crash, says the auto manufacturer.

March 1 Reuters - Toyota Motor said Friday it is recalling about , trucks in the United States over an axle issue that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall covers and model year Tacoma vehicles because an axle shaft separation can impact vehicle stability and brake performance due to debris causing improperly secured fasteners, according to a filing by Toyota with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA. Dealers will inspect the rear axle assembly and retighten the axle retaining nuts and damaged axle components may be repaired or replaced based if needed. Toyota said it has no reports of warranty claims or field reports of incidents related to the recall. Toyota opened an investigation into the issue after in late October finding an issue involving an axle housing. Toyota has issued three other recalls in the United States over last two weeks, including calling back , Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, Lexus LX, and Sequoia Hybrid models because vehicles may have unexpected movement when the vehicle is in neutral and the brakes are not applied.
