Fernando Alonso joined Aston Martin in and is already making big news at the Silverstone-based outfit. The two-time world champion initially left F1 in to try other racing ventures but returned just two years later with Alpine. Unfortunately, Alpine could not provide him with a car to do that, so he decided to move to Aston Martin. However, in the early stages of the season, they look like one of the strongest teams out there and Alonso is loving life at Aston Martin so far. But how long will Alonso stay at Aston Martin? Is his contract long enough for him to win races and titles once again before he retires from F1 for good? Later, Alonso confirmed that his stay at Aston Martin is going to be for two years. The Spaniard is currently 41 years old but is showing no signs of slowing down. If Aston Martin end up making a car that can consistently fight at the front of the grid, he may even renew his contract. Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack admitted that there is a possibility of Alonso staying behind at Aston Martin in a management role after he retires from his driving career.

Aston Martin have moved swiftly to announce a replacement for Sebastian Vettel, swapping one world champion for another with Fernando Alonso agreeing to join the team in on a multi-year deal. Alonso returned to Formula 1 in with Alpine after a two-year sabbatical and has delivered a string of impressive drives alongside Esteban Ocon. But when Vettel announced last Thursday that he was retiring at the end of the season, Alonso emerged as a favourite to replace him given his wealth of F1 experience that includes two World Championships. I have watched as the team has systematically attracted great people with winning pedigrees, and I have become aware of the huge commitment to new facilities and resources at Silverstone. No one in Formula 1 today is demonstrating a greater vision and absolute commitment to winning, and that makes it a really exciting opportunity for me. We all appreciate that there is much to be done to get to the front, and that we must apply all our energies in working together to find performance. I intend to win again in this sport and therefore I have to take the opportunities that feel right to me. I have set out to bring together the best people and develop the right resources and organisation to succeed in this highly competitive sport, and those plans are now taking shape at Silverstone.
