Emery flight 17 slammed into an automobile salvage yard less than two minutes after lifting off from runway 22L at Mather Airport in Sacramento, California, while attempting to return to the airport for an emergency landing. The year-old captain, year-old first officer, and year-old flight engineer perished in the accident. The airplane was destroyed by impact forces and a massive post-crash fire see graphic 2.
