People living close to a major three-year roadwork scheme on Cornwall's A30 say they have been denied compensation.
National Highways is advising drivers to plan their journeys ahead of work resuming next week under closures of the A30 in Cornwall. The new year programme of work follows pre-Christmas closures, which saw the partial opening of the new, temporary surfaced Chiverton flyover and the opening of the north-south B link across the Chybucca junction. Work next week will involve further surfacing across the Chiverton fly-over, significant drainage and central reservation work at the western end of the scheme, together with other construction work close to the live carriageway. We have one scheme in construction, two in development, and a further project being looked at as part of some early work to potentially feed into the fourth road investment period The A connects the A to the M5 at Taunton. We're also improving the A30 between Chiverton and Carland Cross. This will start east of Podimore Roundabout and once finished the new route will bypass the existing Hazlegrove Roundabout. The new road is being built away from the existing A but it will cross and tie into the existing road in certain places. Our aim is to keep one lane of traffic on the A open in each direction during the works - which is the same as before work started.
All other details remain the same. Westbound HGV traffic during these closures will need to divert via Chacewater in order to avoid the low bridge at Scorrier 4. This temporary change to the diversion route has been agreed with Cornwall Council as their highways department is starting work to repair a collapsed mineshaft on the A Sandy Lane, which is typically used for these diversions. To allow us to carry out work on the Chiverton flyover and other infrastructure along the route, the following closures will be in place: Overnight closures - Monday 4 March to Friday 8 March - A30 Boxheater to Scorrier, 8pm to 6am Weekend closure - Friday 8 March to Monday 11 March - A30 Boxheater to Scorrier, 8pm Friday evening to 6am Monday morning.
