How long will it last for a teenager hard driver who will be putting a lot of miles on it, at the very least miles highway per month and miles city, probably more. When i changed the fluid, it looked new and there were no shavings on the magnet, just fine metal powder. Just dont let the next driver hit rpm too often And I am the next driver, the car was my dad's.

GM introduced a transverse front-wheel drive configuration automatic transmission with overdrive in It was known as the T4. It was hydraulically shifted and controlled, with the only electronically controlled component being the torque converter clutch solenoid — just like the 3-speed automatic C that was available for the Pontiac Fiero. The T4 differed from the C in one major aspect besides the fact the T4 had an overdrive gear; it also had a vacuum modulator that controlled line pressure. On the C, both line pressure and shift points are controlled by the throttle valve TV cable aka: kickdown cable. The TV cable on the T4 only controls shift points. The individual gear ratios in the T4 are as follows: 1 st The T4 was available with the following differential ratios: 2. The drive chain attaches the input shaft to the rest of the transmission clutches, gears, and shafts, so a change in the chain sprocket ratio will impact all gears which will affect the overall final drive ratio. And the overall final drive ratio of your transmission will be the same as the differential gear ratio. If you had this chain sprocket ratio and a 3. The T4 was offered with the standard GM FWD bell housing bolt pattern, which means it would directly bolt up to both engines that were offered stock in the Fiero. Swapping this transmission into a Fiero requires different mounts and axles than the stock Fiero C used, but off-the-shelf parts can be purchased to make this swap work. If you have done an engine swap using something other than a stock Fiero engine and have relocated the engine in relation to its location side to side in the car , these axles may not be the correct length for your swap.

The 4T60E transmission super sale has just begun. This was an extremely popular unit from the early to late 90s. Does 4-speed automatic was designed perfectly for midsize cars, most having engines ranging all the way from 2. We have built the 4T60E transmission to last with a host of performance-enhancing upgrades. A lock up torque converter with an updated solid Teflon pump driveshaft seal. Updated 4th clutch shaft to help eliminate spline stripping.

Designed for transverse engine configurations, the series includes 4 forward gears. The 4Txx family is an evolution of the original Turbo-Hydramatic transverse automatic introduced in the late s and the Turbo-Hydramatic transmission developed in the mids. The "-E" transmission is electronically controlled and features an automatic overdrive transaxle with an electronically controlled torque converter clutch. One benefit was that the cruise control was integrated into the gearbox' electronic control module, improving the ability to maintain a set speed while avoiding needless shifting, thus lowering fuel consumption and noise levels. The 4TE was phased out in favor of the 4T65 beginning in The 4TE featured a mm 9. For example, a Beretta features a rpm stall converter as opposed to a Century converter with a stall of rpm. In the 4T60 family of transmissions, the combination of drive-chain sprocket ratios and the differential gear ratio together offer up to 12 different possible final drive ratios to allow the transmission family to cover various engine and vehicle applications. Replacing a complete transaxle should only be done if a unit is verified to be the same as the unit it replaces, as in addition to the up to 12 variants of the final drive ratio, different applications and years can and will have incompatible electrical connectors.

The 4TE is electronically shifted by way of two computer controlled shift solenoids , thus it does not have a kickdown cable. A shift kit is easily installed by any re-builder, or owner, and line pressures can be monitored to establish strong or stronger shift points. Add to Cart. Web Design by First Scribe.

I replaced it and shifts firmed up real nice. It's just an annoyance but I'd prefer this tranny to last me. Each transmission is dyno tested prior to packaging to ensure long lasting performance out of the box. Printable Version Add to My Favorites. Tools Tools. Or plan to rebuild the trans often Just dont let the next driver hit rpm too often Some Cadillac applications used a viscous converter clutch VCC instead of the conventional torque converter clutch all other applications used. Speaking from experience with cars hooked to 's and LQ1's these transmission DO tend to blow up at around k if not properly taken care of. Did 2 fluid changes since then- tranny is like new.
