This means the valve requires power to change to the open position and if power is lost it will automatically close. The actuator uses an internal capacitor to drive the valve into the closed position when power is lost. The capacitor will require a nominal amount of power to stay charged. The internal capacitor powers the motor to turn the ball 90 degrees back to its normal position when power is removed. This actuator requires a minimum energized cycle of at least 60 seconds to ensure the internal capacitor is fully charged and has enough power to close the valve completely. Cycle times shorter than 60 seconds may result in partial or incomplete closures. Unlike a solenoid valve, an electric motorized ball valve will not fail due to coil wear or overheating.
